Many people are unaware of the origins of their eggs, meat, or dairy products come from, so they prefer to envision an idyllic country scene with animals lying in lush fields. This increases the chance of a cow developing mastitis and lameness, an uncomfortable infection that affects the udder.

What is FACTORY FARMING?

Factory farms are, also referred to as concentration animal feed operations (CAFOs), are a type of intensive animal farming. Nearly all animal products produced in the United States are grown on factory farms. Although it was first developed in the US, factories are becoming increasingly prevalent worldwide. Factory farming encompasses the use of animals in terrestrial farms such as cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, and pigs. Aquaculture, in which vast quantities of salmon and other fish are cultivated to feed the animals–is a different kind that is part of the factory farm.
